コロンやセミコロンは引用符の外側に置くの？

ピリオドやカンマは、引用符の内側に置くのがアメリカ式では一般的です。しかし、コロンやセミコロンの場合は、アメリカ式でもイギリス式でも、下の例のように引用符の外側に置きます。

○ The magazine gave three reasons for the success of “Titanic”: the story, the scale, and the acting.

○ The sign read “Danger”; however, it was not large enough.
